Stéphane Blin received the degree of engineering in optronics and the Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies in optronics/optical telecommunications from Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Sciences Appliquées et de Technologie, Lannion, France, in 2000, the Ph.D. degree in physics from Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Sciences Appliquées et de Technologie, Lannion, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Université Laval, Québec, QC, Canada, in joint guardianship, in 2003.
From 2000 to 2004, he led optical injection experiments using semiconductor or fiber lasers, especially at very low injection levels (fW–pW), providing original metrological methods, e.g., spectral linewidth measurement of highly coherent lasers. He also studied the frequency noise of highly coherent lasers with DiCOS Technol., Québec.
From 2004 to 2007, he has been a Postdoctoral Scholar with Edward L. Ginzton Laboratory, Stanford University, Stanford, CA. His research interests included acoustic fiber sensor arrays and fiber-optic gyroscope using an air-core photonic-bandgap fiber.
From 2007 to 2009, he worked as a research scientist at the Foton laboratory (Enssat, University of Rennes 1) on high-peak-power fiber lasers for material processing applications.
Since 2009, he joined the Institut d’électronique du sud, University of Montpellier 2, as an associate professor. His current research interests are THz waves generation.

Design of distributed feedback fibre lasers for optical injection studies : Comparison with injection using semiconductor lasers, defended the 3rd of December 2003, in joint guardianship with both universities. Original results have been obtained in laser physics, especially about : Wide optical bistable behaviour, chaos synchronization using optical injection, very weak signal (less than 1 fW) detection, very narrow spectral linewidth (less than 1 kHz) measurements. The realization of codoped erbium-ytterbium distributed feedback fibre lasers was obtained by the photo-inscription of Bragg gratings. Research have also been done with the Enst (Paris, France) and the Vnuh (Hanoi, Vietnam).
